H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N 
EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE    
JOSEPH A. DELORENZO, JR.

WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Joseph 1 
DeLorenzo, Jr., the beloved husband of Mary DeLorenzo for fifty-eight years; and 2 
WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was a hard-working man who strived daily to provide for 3 
his family and loved ones. He was a successful businessman who was the founder and CEO of the 4 
Ocean State Rental Corporation, and later added Mobile Stages Northeast to his business 5 
enterprise. Through the years, he was able to travel the country and stage many popular events 6 
from college commencements to an Aerosmith concert, as well as important Rhode Island events 7 
like the Newport Jazz Festival; and 8 
WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was a public servant with a long and distinguished record of 9 
honorable service who always put the “average, hard-working Rhode Islander” first on his 10 
priority list. He served the citizens of Cranston for twenty-five years where he became the Vice-11 
Chairman of the Finance Committee and was known for his vigilant protection of the public 12 
interest and for asking pointed questions at Committee hearings in his quest for the truth; and 13 
WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was later elected to the Cranston City Council, where he 14 
served as President. He was also the Deputy Secretary of State, served on the Democratic State 15 
Committee for 47 years, and for many years, as the Chairman of the Cranston City Committee; 16 
and 17 
WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo served on numerous civic commissions and committees 18 
including, the Rhode Island Lottery Commission, the Rhode Island Investment Commission, the 19

Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, and the Cranston Board of Canvassers; and 1 
WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was a passionate sports enthusiast, who loved coaching 2 
CLCF Little League and Edgewood Hockey, and thoroughly enjoyed watching and following his 3 
beloved Boston Red Sox as well as the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Providence 4 
Friars basketball. He also immensely enjoyed big family parties and dining at Twin Oaks; and 5 
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife Mary, Mr. DeLorenzo leaves behind his children, 6 
Lisa Scotti and her husband, Gerard, Joseph DeLorenzo III, and Christine DeLorenzo and her 7 
husband, Charles Bridges. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ashley and 8 
Nicholas Scotti, his siblings, Catherine Hogan and Dolores D’Agostino, his nephews and many 9 
friends; now, therefore be it 10 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 11 
expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of the Honorable Joseph A. DeLorenzo, Jr.; and 12 
be it further 13 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 14 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Mary DeLorenzo and Family. 15
