2222 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
2323 SECTION 1. Chapter 45-6 of the General Laws entitled "Ordinances" is hereby amended 1
2424 by adding thereto the following section: 2
2525 45-6-13. Notification of short-term rental of residential property for tourist or 3
2626 transient use on a hosting platform website. 4
2727 (a) Notwithstanding any law or provision to the contrary, cities and towns, may, by 5
2828 ordinance, require written notice, which may be a copy of the registration statement, that contains 6
2929 all required information in § 42-63.1-14(d), to be sent to the municipal building department and all 7
3030 owners of real property whose property is located within one thousand feet (1,000’) of the perimeter 8
3131 of a residence being listed for short-term rental for tourist or transient use on a hosting platform. 9
3232 (b) The notice shall be sent once a year upon the first listing of the property on a hosting 10
3333 platform by registered, certified, or first-class mail to the last known address of the owners, as 11
3434 shown on the current real estate tax assessment records of the city or town in which the property is 12
3535 located; provided, for any notice sent by first-class mail, the sender of the notice shall utilize and 13
3636 obtain a United States Postal Services certification of mailing, PS form 3817, or any applicable 14
3737 version thereof, to demonstrate proof of such mailing. 15
3838 (c) Any owner of the property who fails to provide the notice required by this subsection 16
3939 shall be subject to a civil fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500) per day for each property 17
4040 until such notice is provided. 18
