MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $2,500,000 TO THE HAUS OF CODEC

WHEREAS, Haus of Codec opened in December of 2021 as the first and only LGTBQ+ 1
Emergency Transitional Housing Program for young adults aged 18-24 in the nation; and 2
WHEREAS, Haus of Codec provides a safe space for LGTBQ+ youth, across all of 3
Rhode Island, to call home and help them find their own, more permanent housing solutions and 4
workforce development opportunities; and 5
WHEREAS, The shelter space hosts a food and clothing pantry, a self-service kitchen, a 6
shared bathroom, access to essential services through partner providers, and a sense of 7
community where there wasn't one before; and 8
WHEREAS, In addition, Haus of Codec hosts community LGBTQ+ Resource Fair & Art 9
Marketplace at Dexter Park in Providence, RI for Queer and BIPOC artists and local community 10
organizations to raise funds for Haus of Codec programming; and 11
WHEREAS, The organization is one hundred percent (100%) staffed by volunteers, is 12
community funded, and offers wraparound services including workforce training, mental health 13
support, creative art programs, and daily nutrition; now, therefore be it 14
RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not 15
otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2023-2024, the sum of two million five hundred 16
thousand dollars ($2,500,000) to the Haus of Codec to assist its efforts and services to the 17
LGTBQ+ community; and the state controller is hereby authorized and directed to draw his 18
orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, or so much thereof as may be from 19

MAKING AN APPROPRIAT ION OF $2,500,000 TO THE HAUS OF CODEC

This resolution would authorize the appropriation of the sum of two million five hundred 1
thousand dollars ($2,500,000) to the Haus of Codec to support unhoused members of the 2
LGBTQ+ community through transitional housing, workforce training, mental health support, 3
and daily nutrition. 4
