RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE -- IDENTIFICATION AND APPREHENSION OF
CRIMINALS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 12-1 of the General Laws entitled "Identification and Apprehension 1
of Criminals" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
12-1-10.2. Firearm examination. 3
In the case of every offense in which a firearm is seized, the arresting/investigating police 4
department shall submit the firearm to the state crime laboratory for testing pursuant to ยง 12-1.2-3 5
and also shall submit any information relative to said firearm, including, but not limited to, its 6
make, model, serial number, and ballistics report from the state crime laboratory, to the federal 7
bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms for tracing. 8
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 9

This act would require law enforcement to submit any firearm seized in any investigation 1
to the state crime laboratory and the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms (BATF) for testing 2
and tracing. 3
This act would take effect upon passage. 4
