| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 1. Section 24-8-11 of the General Laws in Chapter 24-8 entitled "Construction 1 |

| 25 | 25 | | and Maintenance of State Roads" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 |

| 27 | 27 | | (a) The department of transportation is hereby authorized and empowered to plant trees, 4 |

| 28 | 28 | | shrubs and otherwise beautify the area within the limits of a road in a manner and at locations as 5 |

| 29 | 29 | | the department may deem advisable, and the cost of the work shall be paid from moneys, 6 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | appropriated for highway purposes, not otherwise needed for the construction, reconstruction and 7 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | maintenance of state roads and bridges; 8 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (b) Upon request from the appropriate city or town council, the department of 9 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | transportation is hereby authorized and directed to cause the center yellow lines to be painted red, 10 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | white and blue within the municipality for the purpose of celebration; and 11 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | (c) The the state controller is hereby authorized and directed to draw his or her orders upon 12 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | the general treasurer for the payment of such sums as may from time to time be required, upon 13 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | receipt by him or her of proper vouchers approved by the director of transportation. 14 |
|---|
