2023 -- H 6132 ======== LC001706 ======== S TATE OF RHODE IS LAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N CELEBRATING MARCH OF 2023 AS "ARTS IN THE SCHOOLS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND Introduced By: Representatives Carson, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Donovan, Kennedy, Ajello, Fenton-Fung, Fellela, and Cortvriend Date Introduced: March 07, 2023 Referred To: House read and passed WHEREAS, The arts enhance and enrich the lives of every Rhode Islander; and 1 WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island has clear evidence that the arts contribute 2 significantly to our quality of life, the education of our citizens and the economy of our state; and 3 WHEREAS, The arts strengthen the Rhode Island economy by generating approximately 4 $1.9 billion in economic activity annually and by supporting nearly 15,723 jobs, according to the 5 Americans for the Arts Action Fund; and 6 WHEREAS, Arts learning fosters teamwork and collaboration, critical thinking, problem-7 solving, public speaking, tolerance, flexibility and attention to detail, all essential skills that 8 employers require in a 21st Century economy; and 9 WHEREAS, Arts education in the schools provides substantial educational benefits to all 10 elementary, middle and secondary students, helping students graduate with proficiency, ready to 11 enter the Rhode Island workforce; and 12 WHEREAS, The National Art Education Association designates the month of March as 13 “Youth Art Month”; and 14 WHEREAS, The American Alliance for Theatre & Education and the Educational 15 Theatre Association designate the month of March as “Theatre in our Schools” Month; and 16 WHEREAS, The National Association for Music Education designates the month of 17 March as “Music in our Schools” Month; and 18 WHEREAS, The National Dance Education Organization designates the month of March 19 LC001706 - Page 2 of 2 as “Dance in our Schools” Month; now, therefore be it 1 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 2 proclaims March of 2023 to be “Arts in the Schools Month” in our State. We furthermore urge all 3 the citizens of the state to join us in the observance of this month, and to recognize and applaud 4 the efforts of arts educators, artists and administrators, who work diligently to ensure that all 5 young people have access to the arts in their school throughout the school year; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 7 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. 8 ======== LC001706 ========
