2222 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
2323 SECTION 1. Section 16-33.1-3 of the General Laws in Chapter 16-33.1 entitled 1
2424 "Community College of Rhode Island [See Title 16 Chapter 97 — The Rhode Island Board of 2
2525 Education Act]" is hereby amended to read as follows: 3
2626 16-33.1-3. Award of degrees — Curriculum and government Award of degrees -- 4
2727 Curriculum, governance, and government. 5
2828 (a) The board of governors education, with the approval of the president and a committee 6
2929 of the faculty of the community college the faculty senate of the community college of Rhode 7
3030 Island, shall award associate degrees, certificates, and diplomas and confer honors in the same 8
3131 manner as is customary in American junior colleges and community colleges. It shall also be the 9
3232 duty of the president and a committee of the faculty the faculty senate of the community college of 10
3333 Rhode Island, with the approval of the board of governors education, to arrange courses of study, 11
3434 prescribe any qualifications for the admission of students and any rules of study, exercise, 12
3535 discipline, and government as the president and committee may deem proper. 13
3636 (b) With the concurrence of the president, the faculty senate of the community college of 14
3737 Rhode Island has the authority to formulate policy concerning teaching and research, study, 15
3838 exercise, discipline, governance, and government, including, but not limited to: 16
3939 (1) Academic standards, which includes scholastic standing, admission, dismissal policies, 17
4040 class attendance, and grading systems; 18
4141 (2) The community college’s calendar; 19

4545 (3) Community college-wide curriculum matters and research and patent policy as they 1
4646 may affect the faculty as a whole. 2
4747 (c) All policies established by the faculty senate of the community college of Rhode Island 3
4848 (the “college”) shall be made with recognition of and to support the varied student body of the 4
4949 college, and shall seek to advance the mission of the college in servicing that student body. 5
5050 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 6
