HONORING DR. ANTHONY A. CALDAMONE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 
RETIREMENT

WHEREAS, Laying the foundation for his eminent career, Anthony A. Caldamone 1 
graduated from Brown University and Brown University School of Medicine, did his internship 2 
and urology residency training at Strong Memorial Hospital, and completed his Pediatric Urology 3 
Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and  4 
WHEREAS, Upon completing his Fellowship, Dr. Caldamone was appointed consultant 5 
at The Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street in London and was subsequently named 6 
Chief of Pediatric Urology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve 7 
School of Medicine; and  8 
WHEREAS, To the good fortune of many Rhode Islanders, in 1986, Dr. Caldamone 9 
became the Director of Pediatric Urology at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, a position he held until 10 
2019. He also served as the Program Director of the urology residency program at Brown 11 
University from 1990 to 2016. Most recently, he served as Professor of Surgery (Urology) and 12 
Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and is notably the first 13 
graduate of the medical school to become a full professor at the institution; and 14 
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Caldamone began medical mission work in 1996 in the 15 
West Bank, Israel, and has since undergone fifteen medical missions to the Middle East, Africa, 16 
South America, Bangladesh, and Vietnam; and  17 
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession, Dr. Caldamone has served as President of the 18 
New England Section of the American Urological Association and as Secretary-Treasurer and 19

President of the Society for Pediatric Urology, has been a member of the ABU/AUA Examination 1 
Committee since 2005, served as Chairman of the Pediatric Subspecialty Certification Exam 2 
Committee, and as Chairman of the ABU Examination Committee, and has served as the 3 
Executive Secretary of the Pediatric Urology Advisory Council, and on the Board of Directors of 4 
Physicians for Peace; and 5 
WHEREAS, Dr. Caldamone has also been a visiting professor and invited lecturer both 6 
nationally and internationally, and has contributed well over two hundred articles and chapters, 7 
and edited fourteen books. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Dialogues in Pediatric 8 
Urology, as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Urology, and is currently the Associate 9 
Editor-in-Chief; and  10 
WHEREAS, Dr. Caldamone began achieving recognition for his talents and 11 
achievements during his postgraduate years, earning membership into the Sigma Xi Honorary 12 
Scientific Society and receiving the Upjohn Achievement Award for Outstanding Class 13 
Leadership. He also received multiple Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards and was named as 14 
one of the “Best Doctors in America” many times; and  15 
WHEREAS, Highly respected by his peers, Dr. Caldamone has been honored with 16 
myriad awards and recognitions throughout his career including the W. W. Keen Medical Alumni 17 
Service Award from the Brown University School of Medicine, the University of Rochester 18 
Humanitarian Award, a Distinguished Contribution Award from the American Urological 19 
Association, the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhode Island Urological Society, 20 
and received the AAP Section of Urology Medal for outstanding contributions to the field of 21 
Pediatric Urology; and 22 
WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony Caldamone has touched the lives and hearts of so many people 23 
around the world and he is truly an extraordinary man who is enormously worthy of our 24 
emulation and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it  25 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 26 
recognizes and thanks Dr. Anthony Caldamone on the occasion of his retirement after more than 27 
four decades of benevolent service to healing and helping his fellow man. We wish him good 28 
health, fulfillment, and some well-earned leisure and family time; and be it further  29 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 30 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dr. Anthony A. Caldamone. 31
