EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE P ASSING OF MARJORIE HOPE
MARTIESIAN

WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Marjorie 1
Hope Martiesian of Saunderstown; and 2
WHEREAS, Marjorie Hope Martiesian was a woman of great accomplishment and a 3
teacher held in high esteem by all of her peers. She was a member of the first graduating class of 4
the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) and graduated from Mount St. Joseph College 5
with a degree in elementary education. She later earned a Master’s degree in education from 6
Rhode Island College; and 7
WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian was a reading specialist teacher for 28 years with the 8
Providence School System, spending the greater part of her distinguished career at the Broad 9
Street Elementary School. She was a beloved figure who always went the extra mile to tutor her 10
students and guide them as they passed through elementary school; and 11
WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian was a lifelong advocate of public education. She served as a 12
member of the Armenian Students' Association where she served on their National Board of 13
Trustees and was President of the Providence branch. She was also a Board Member of the CRRI 14
Foundation; and 15
WHEREAS, In her retirement, Ms. Martiesian continued her advocacy, serving as a 16
Board Member of the Rochambeau Branch of the Providence Public Library and on the Board of 17
the Narragansett Public Library. She was also a strong supporter of their Building Fund; and 18
WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian was a woman of deep faith. She was a member of Sts. Sahag 19

& Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of 1
the Parish Council and the Women’s Guild, and the Daughters of Vartan, where she was honored 2
as their Daughter of the Year; and 3
WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian is survived by her siblings, Terrance Sahag Martiesian and 4
his wife, Dorothy, and Andrea Martiesian Doughty and her husband, Philip. She also leaves 5
behind her nieces and nephews, Jason, Joshua, Julia, Jennifer, Lauren, Marc, Carla, Olivia, Aram, 6
Sadie, Kian, Leila, Levon, Ani, Cassius, and Princeton, and her close friend, Adrienne Cady and 7
her husband, Dennis; now, therefore be it 8
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 9
expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Marjorie Hope Martiesian; and be it further 10
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 11
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Terrance Sahag Martiesian and Family and 12
Andrea Martiesian Doughty and Family. 13
