2023 -- H 6366 ======== LC002898 ======== S T A T E O F R H O D E I S L A N D IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF REVEREND MOTHER DIANA "RED DOE" SPEARS MARS Introduced By: Representatives Spears, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Ajello, McGaw, Fellela, Tanzi, and Cortvriend Date Introduced: May 04, 2023 Referred To: House read and passed WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Diana 1 Spears Mars, and the beloved life partner and wife of David Mars, Sr. for sixty-five years, and the 2 cherished mother of India "Misty," Tawny, David "Jeff," and Heather Angel; and 3 WHEREAS, Born in Westerly, Diana Spears was the daughter of the late Russell and 4 Grace Spears, and the oldest of twelve siblings, including the late Russell Jr., Holly, Robin, 5 Lance, Starr, Craig, Forest, Melody, Lake, Autumn, and Sky; and 6 WHEREAS, Mrs. Mars lived her life on the Indigenous homelands of her people, the 7 Narragansett. She had been employed in the Admissions Office of URI for twenty years and 8 served her community as a beloved minister/Pawwaw of the Gospel and educator at Narragansett 9 Indian Church; and 10 WHEREAS, A spiritual leader who embodied the "Fruit of the Spirit", Mrs. Mars lived 11 her life bestowing love and beauty on all who knew her, and especially to her cherished family. 12 Her lively personality created and nurtured a marriage that flourished, and a home that was 13 welcoming and filled with nieces and nephews, cousins, and interesting friends; and 14 WHEREAS, Always benevolent and exuding love, Mrs. Mars possessed a great wit and 15 humor, and exemplified grace, panache, and unique style and fashion sense. She loved the arts, 16 and was a skilled songstress, gifted orator, gardener, and writer; and 17 WHEREAS, Diana Mars led a glorious life, and blessed with the total love and support of 18 her family, she embraced each and every day fully and joyfully; now, therefore be it 19 LC002898 - Page 2 of 2 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 1 offers heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Diana Spears Mars; and be it 2 further 3 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 4 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David K.
