CONGRATULATING THE ELEANOR SLATER HOSPITAL-ZAMBARANO CAMPUS ON
THE RECOGNITION OF “ZAMBARANO DAY” ON MA Y 16, 2023

WHEREAS, Since 1995, the Eleanor Slater Hospital-Zambarano campus has been 1
serving the citizens of the State of Rhode Island. It was previously called the Dr. U. E. 2
Zambarano Hospital in tribute to its superintendent. Since its inception, the Eleanor Slater 3
Hospital-Zambarano campus has provided crucial health care for many Rhode Islanders; and 4
WHEREAS, This facility delivers compassionate health care services to those Rhode 5
Islanders who are in greatest need, including those with acute breathing problems, severe wounds, 6
infectious diseases, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and other acute conditions which 7
require a longer hospitalization. The hospital also serves geriatric patients who require more 8
medical and clinical resources than other post-acute providers can provide; and 9
WHEREAS, Eleanor Slater Hospital-Zambarano campus serves as a model for long-term 10
acute care facilities; and 11
WHEREAS, Since its first meeting on May 18, 1979, the patients have been involved in 12
an organized group, “Patients for Progress” dedicated to promoting superior care for all 13
individuals at our State hospitals; and 14
WHEREAS, The staff at Eleanor Slater Hospital-Zambarano campus work tirelessly to 15
ensure a high quality for all patients and their families as they also begin the planning of a new 16
state-of-the-art facility on the Zambarano campus; now, therefore be it 17
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 18
recognizes “Zambarano Day” on May 16, 2023, and extends its sincere congratulations to the 19

staff of the Eleanor Slater Hospital-Zambarano campus and expresses its deep appreciation for 1
the continuation of their laudable efforts on behalf of all long-term acute care patients; and be it 2
further 3
RESOLVED, That this House hereby declares its continuing support to ensure the 4
Eleanor Slater Hospital-Zambarano campus remains an exemplary long-term acute care hospital 5
for the benefit of all Rhode Islanders; and be it further 6
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 7
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the staff of the Eleanor Slater Hospital-8
Zambarano campus. 9
