PROCLAIMING MAY 23, 2023, AS "RHODE ISLAND COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER 
DAY"

WHEREAS, For over fifty years, Rhode Island’s Community Health Centers have 1 
provided high-quality, affordable, comprehensive primary medical, dental, and behavioral health 2 
care; and  3 
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers provide care to 190,000 individuals, regardless 4 
of a person’s age or ability to pay; and  5 
WHEREAS, In addition, some Centers offer language interpretation and translation, as 6 
well as transportation and case management; and  7 
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers employ more than 2,019 people, including 8 
physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, behavioral health providers, and 9 
support staff; and   10 
WHEREAS, In 2021, Community Health Centers created 3,408 jobs and generated 11 
$545,695,190 in total economic activity; and 12 
WHEREAS, The eight Community Health Centers providing services in all five Rhode 13 
Island counties are: 14 
• Blackstone Valley Community Health Care Inc.; 15 
• Comprehensive Community Action Program; 16 
• East Bay Community Action Program; 17 
• Providence Community Health Centers; 18 
• Thundermist Health Center; 19

• Tri-Community Action Agency;  1 
• WellOne Primary Medical & Dental Care;   2 
• Wood River Health; and  3 
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers are governed by patient-majority boards, 4 
ensuring the health centers hear and meet the needs of the patients and communities they serve; 5 
and 6 
WHEREAS, May 23, 2023, is a day to celebrate the legacy of Rhode Island’s 7 
Community Health Centers, and their vital role in shaping the past, present, and future of Rhode 8 
Island’s health care system; now, therefore be it 9 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 10 
proclaims May 23, 2023, as “Rhode Island Community Health Center Day”; and be it further     11 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 12 
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Blackstone Valley Community Health Care 13 
Inc., Comprehensive Community Action Program, East Bay Community Action Program, 14 
Providence Community Health Centers, Thundermist Health Center, Tri-Community Action 15 
Agency, WellOne Primary Medical & Dental Care, and Wood River Health, and the Rhode 16 
Island Health Center Association. 17
