PROCLAIMING TUESDAY, MAY 30, 2023, AS "COX CHARITIES DAY" IN THE STATE 
OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, Cox Communications is committed to creating meaningful moments of 1 
human connection through technology. The largest private broadband company in America, Cox 2 
proudly serves seven million homes and businesses across 18 states. Cox Communications is the 3 
largest division of Cox Enterprises, a family-owned business founded in 1898 by Governor James 4 
M. Cox; and 5 
WHEREAS, Since 2001, Cox employees and business partners have invested in Cox 6 
Charities, a charitable giving initiative of Cox Communications. Cox Charities has invested more 7 
than $7 million in grants and in-kind support to organizations providing S.T.E.A.M. [Science. 8 
Technology. Engineering. Arts and Math] enrichment programs to youth throughout Connecticut, 9 
Ohio and Rhode Island; and 10 
WHEREAS, Cox believes in community action through giving. Cox loves the position 11 
they hold as a contributing member of the community– their business, their employees and their 12 
customers. This compels Cox to provide support with monetary, media and premium gift 13 
contributions that provide goodwill to organizations and causes in need and strengthens the 14 
social, economic and educational infrastructure of our community; and 15 
WHEREAS, Cox demonstrates what they firmly believe by their focused areas of giving. 16 
They concentrate their support in, but are not limited to, the following key areas: Environment -- 17 
Cox supports organizations and initiatives that encourage environmental sustainability and 18 
conservation; Civic and Community -- Cox supports charitable and community organizations that 19

make a positive difference in the communities we serve; Youth & Education -- Cox supports 1 
programs targeted toward providing children the essentials they need to grow up into self-2 
supporting and contributing members of society. Realizing the importance of education, we 3 
support initiatives that enhance educational efforts, particularly at the K-12 level; Diversity -- 4 
Cox supports organizations that directly support the many facets of the richly diverse 5 
communities we serve; and Technology -- Cox supports initiatives that enhance technology 6 
curriculum for children, particularly at the K-12 level; and  7 
WHEREAS, The 2023 Rhode Island recipients of Cox Charities grants are: The Boys and 8 
Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island; The Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport County; The Cape 9 
Verdean American Community Development; City Year, Inc; DownCity Design; Girl Scouts of 10 
Southeastern New England; Global Science & Envirotech. Inc; STEAM Box; and the 11 
Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council; now, therefore be it 12 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 13 
proclaims Tuesday, May 30 of 2023, to be "Cox Charities Day" in the State of Rhode Island and 14 
offers our sincerest congratulations to all of the 2023 Cox Charities Grant Recipients, and thanks 15 
Cox for its philanthropic efforts in Rhode Island; and be it further 16 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 17 
transmit duly certified copies of the resolution to Mr. Ross Nelson, Market Vice President Cox 18 
Communications and Ms. Rosie Fernandez, Manager of Community Relations for Cox 19 
Communications East. 20
