S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N 
HONORING DOUG WHITE (POSTHUMOUSLY) ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE RHODE 
ISLAND RADIO AND TELEVISION HALL OF FAME

WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame annually recognizes 1 
the leadership, dedication and achievements of longstanding on-air radio and television 2 
contributors who have not only risen to the top of their careers, but have also earned distinction 3 
and the respect of their peers and the citizens of Rhode Island; and  4 
WHEREAS, Beginning in the late 1970s, Doug White anchored newscasts at NBC 10.  5 
For almost three decades, he had been the main anchorman for the 6 and 11 PM broadcasts, and 6 
for almost fifteen years, on the 5 p.m. newscast; and  7 
WHEREAS, Before joining NBC 10, Mr. White had been an anchorman at WPRI-TV in 8 
Providence for six years, and had also worked at WSMW-TV in Worcester, Massachusetts, and 9 
WLBZ in Bangor, Maine; and  10 
WHEREAS, Mr. White’s dedication to the community included serving on the Board of 11 
Trustees at Kent Hospital, the Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation and 12 
the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon, and as a former member of the Massachusetts National 13 
Guard, and the United States Coast Guard Reserve in Rhode Island; and   14 
WHEREAS, Upholding the highest standards of journalism, Mr. White was honored with 15 
numerous awards over the course of his career including an Emmy Award in 1980, the 1984 16 
“Man of the Year” Award from the Volunteers in Warwick schools, and was a member of the 17 
Silver Circle of the New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & 18 
Sciences which recognizes individuals “for their significant and long-term influence upon the 19

broadcast industry: and  1 
WHEREAS, Doug White’s career is eminently deserving of the accolades and regard he 2 
has been afforded and is worthy of our recognition and admiration; now, therefore be it  3 
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby joins the family, 4 
friends, and many fans in honoring Doug White (posthumously), on behalf of all Rhode Islanders, 5 
for his eloquent and informative career and his induction into the Rhode Island Radio and 6 
Television Hall of Fame; and be it further  7 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 8 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Barbara White and Family.  9
