2323 RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created 1
2424 consisting of eleven (11) members: four (4) of whom shall be members of the Senate, three (3) of 2
2525 whom shall be appointed by the President of the Senate, and one of whom shall be appointed by 3
2626 the Minority Leader; one of whom shall be the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Labor 4
2727 and Training, or designee; one of whom shall be the President of the Rhode Island Hospitality 5
2828 Association, or designee; one of whom shall be the Executive Director of the Rhode Island 6
2929 Manufacturers Association (RIMA), or designee; one of whom shall be the State Director of the 7
3030 National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), or designee; one of whom shall be the 8
3131 President of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, or designee; one of whom shall be a member of the 9
3232 general public, to be appointed by the President of the Senate; and one of whom shall be a 10
3333 Professor of Economics at the University of Rhode Island, to be appointed by the President of the 11
3434 Senate. 12
3535 The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study of Rhode 13
3636 Island’s minimum wage including a comparison and analysis of neighboring states practices and 14
3737 provide recommendations that would benefit all Rhode Islanders. 15
3838 Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at 16
3939 the call of the President of the Senate and organize and shall select a chairperson from among the 17
4040 legislators. 18
4141 Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment. 19

4545 The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services. 1
4646 All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, 2
4747 documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or 3
4848 desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution. 4
4949 The Joint Committee on Legislative Services is hereby authorized and directed to provide 5
5050 suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further 6
5151 RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the 7
5252 Senate no later than May 4, 2024, and said commission shall expire on January 4, 2025. 8
