RELATING TO EDUCATION -- THE PAUL W. CROWLEY RHODE ISLAND STUDENT
INVESTMENT INITIATIVE

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 16-7.1 of the General Laws entitled "The Paul W. Crowley Rhode 1
Island Student Investment Initiative [See Title 16 Chapter 97 — The Rhode Island Board of 2
Education Act]" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 3
16-7.1-5.2. State intervention in the Providence public school district -- Additional 4
requirements. 5
For the duration of the effective period of the order of reconstitution and control, any 6
collective bargaining agreement entered into on behalf of the Providence public school district shall 7
not take effect until ratified by the council on elementary and secondary education at a public 8
hearing held no earlier than seven (7) days after the terms of a tentative agreement ratified by the 9
union are made public. 10
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 11

This act would mandate, that during the remainder of the reconstitution and control period 1
for the Providence school district, the council on elementary and secondary education ratify any 2
collective bargaining agreement entered into on behalf of the Providence public school district at a 3
public hearing held at least than seven (7) days after the terms of a tentative agreement ratified by 4
the union are made public. 5
This act would take effect upon passage. 6
