22	22	WHEREAS, In 1944, the Rhode Island General Assembly established conservation 1
23	23	districts in order to direct programs to protect local renewable natural resources for the benefit of 2
24	24	Rhode Island and its people; and 3
25	25	WHEREAS, The Rhode Island State Conservation Committee was established as an 4
26	26	agency within the Department of Environmental Management, and consists of three Conservation 5
27	27	Districts, Eastern, Northern and Southern; and 6
28	28	WHEREAS, The three conservation districts main program areas are farmland viability, 7
29	29	farm conservation plans, water quality protection, environmental education and 8
30	30	landowner/producer outreach; and 9
31	31	WHEREAS, Funding is essential for the continuation of the Conservation Committee’s 10
32	32	efforts, including the one hundred eighty thousand dollars ($180,000) per year that would restore 11
33	33	the budget required, but not provided since 2006, to continue these essential services; now, 12
34	34	therefore be it 13
35	35	RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not 14
36	36	otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2023-2024, the sum of one hundred eighty thousand 15
37	37	dollars ($180,000) for the Rhode Island State Conservation Committee and its three Conservation 16
38	38	Districts to be distributed as follows, thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) to the Rhode Island State 17
39	39	Conservation Committee, fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to the Northern Rhode Island 18
40	40	Conservation District, fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) to the Southern Rhode Island 19
