RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- GENERAL STATE OFFICERS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 17-2 of the General Laws entitled "General State Officers" is hereby 1
amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
17-2-7. Gubernatorial qualifications. 3
No person shall be eligible to seek election to the office of governor unless they have 4
resided within the limits of the state at least five (5) years next preceding any election for that office. 5
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 6

This act would require any person seeking the office of governor to live in Rhode Island 1
for five (5) years prior to the election for that office. 2
This act would take effect upon passage. 3
