2323 WHEREAS, Solar carports are overhead canopies built of steel that support solar panels 1
2424 which collect sunlight, offering a more efficient and unobtrusive way to gather a renewable clean 2
2525 energy source; and 3
2626 WHEREAS, Rhode Island’s 2022-23 fiscal year ended with a surplus of more than $600 4
2727 million; now, therefore be it 5
2828 RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of the surplus funds in the treasury 6
2929 not otherwise appropriated from the fiscal year 2022-2023, the sum of one million five hundred 7
3030 thousand dollars ($1,500,000) to The Office of Energy Resources to review and approve grants in 8
3131 the amount of up two thousand dollars ($2,000) per expected kilowatt generated for solar canopy 9
3232 (or solar carport) projects that are designed to generate fifty kilowatts (50kw)or greater; and the 10
3333 state controller is hereby authorized and directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for 11
3434 the payment of said sum, or so much thereof as may be from time to time required, upon receipt 12
3535 of properly authenticated vouchers. 13
