23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Despite Rhode Island’s ambitious renewable energy goals, microgrids have 3 |

24 | 24 | | not yet been incorporated into a more modern grid functionality; and 4 |

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Microgrids have the capacity to increase local and statewide resiliency to 5 |

26 | 26 | | extreme weather events and manage other system constraints; and 6 |

27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The General Assembly has proposed that the public utilities commission 7 |

28 | 28 | | open a docket to establish a microgrid services agreement; and 8 |

29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The public utilities commission would benefit from additional specific 9 |

30 | 30 | | expertise and the capacity to manage the stakeholder engagement process and docket procedures 10 |

31 | 31 | | to create a microgrid services tariff; now, therefore be it 11 |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not 12 |

33 | 33 | | otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2023-2024, the sum of one hundred thousand dollars 13 |

34 | 34 | | ($100,000) to the public utilities commission for the purposes of hiring additional expert capacity 14 |
