HONORING SENATOR MICHAEL J. MCCAFFREY FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE
OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, On September 13, 1994, in the Democratic Primary, and once again on 1
November 8, 1994, in the General election, the Honorable Michael J. McCaffrey received the 2
confidence of his constituents and was elected to the Rhode Island State Senate, representing 3
portions of the City of Warwick in former District 16, which is now District 29. He has since 4
been re-elected thirteen times, diligently serving the people of this State for almost three decades; 5
and 6
WHEREAS, Michael McCaffrey graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and 7
earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Providence College followed by his Juris Doctor 8
from Suffolk University Law School. He is the husband of Deirdre McCaffrey and the father of 9
Michael, Cailin, Brenna, and Dierdre; and 10
WHEREAS, Senator McCaffrey’s astute legal erudition earned him the Chair of Senate 11
Judiciary from 2003 until 2017, at which time he was elected by his fellow Senators to the 12
position of Majority Leader on March 23, 2017; and 13
WHEREAS, As the Senate Majority Leader, the Honorable Michael McCaffrey is an Ex 14
Officio Member of all standing committees of the Senate. In addition, he has championed 15
numerous initiatives and legislation including enacting court reform measures, diversifying the 16
judiciary, and most recently, propelling the most progressive cannabis regulation system in the 17
country through the legislative process to final enactment; and 18
WHEREAS, In addition to his family and innumerable hours spent at the State House, 19

Senator McCaffrey is a successful practicing attorney. He maintains a private legal practice in 1
Warwick with his brother, James, and is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. He also 2
previously served as a Grand Knight for the Warwick Knights of Columbus; and 3
WHEREAS, Senator McCaffrey serves as a model of dedicated and conscientious civic 4
service, and has earned the respect and the gratitude of the citizens in his community and the 5
people of this State for making Rhode Island a better place to live and grow; now, therefore be it 6
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby honors Senator 7
Michael McCaffrey for his service to the people of this State and wishes him good health, 8
fulfillment, and continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further 9
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 10
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Michael J. McCaffrey. 11
