2121 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
2222 SECTION 1. Section 11-47-20 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-47 entitled "Weapons" 1
2323 is hereby amended to read as follows: 2
2424 11-47-20. Sale or possession of silencers. 3
2525 It shall be unlawful within this state to manufacture, sell, purchase, or possess any muffler, 4
2626 silencer, or device for deadening or muffling the sound of a firearm when discharged; provided, 5
2727 however, that this section shall not apply to sworn members of the Rhode Island state police 6
2828 utilizing such devices while acting within the scope of their official duties and training as part of 7
2929 its tactical team and under the direct supervision of the colonel of the state police, or designee. 8
3030 Violations of this section shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than one year and one day. 9
3131 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 10
