| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 1. Section 11-47-20 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-47 entitled "Weapons" 1 |

| 23 | 23 | | is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 |

| 24 | 24 | | 11-47-20. Sale or possession of silencers. 3 |

| 25 | 25 | | It shall be unlawful within this state to manufacture, sell, purchase, or possess any muffler, 4 |

| 26 | 26 | | silencer, or device for deadening or muffling the sound of a firearm when discharged; provided, 5 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | however, that this section shall not apply to sworn members of the Rhode Island state police 6 |

| 28 | 28 | | utilizing such devices while acting within the scope of their official duties and training as part of 7 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | its tactical team and under the direct supervision of the colonel of the state police, or designee. 8 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Violations of this section shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than one year and one day. 9 |
