THANKING BASKETBALL STAR, VERONICA DAWSO N, FOR HOSTING A 
BASKETBALL CLINIC FOR PAWTUCKET ELEMENTA RY SCHOOL YOUNGSTERS

WHEREAS, Veronica Dawson is a bright 16 year-old student, and talented basketball 1 
player for the Prep Elite Girls Basketball Team at St. Andrews. She is ranked in the New England 2 
top 40, is sixth at her position in the Prep Girls New England Ranking, and has already received 3 
her first college basketball scholarship offer from Colby College. She also played for the Boston-4 
based, New Balance sponsored AAU Travel Basketball Team, the MCW Starz. In addition to her 5 
many talents, she is very active in her community; and 6 
WHEREAS, On December 17, 2022, Ms. Dawson hosted a one-day clinic for a few 7 
dozen students at the Winters Elementary School in Pawtucket. At the clinic, she explained and 8 
exhibited the basketball fundamentals of ball handling and shooting, and told them her life story 9 
in the hope that they will aspire to achieve all of the dreams that matter to them; and 10 
WHEREAS, Ms. Dawson hosted this clinic with a few of her fellow teammates and her 11 
prep coach, Christina Batastini, who described Veronica Dawson as being the “embodiment of a 12 
student athlete, driven and dedicated on and off the court.” Coach Batastini went on to say about 13 
Veronica Dawson that she “has a high emotional IQ, acting as a leader among her peers, and has 14 
observed Dawson’s strong connection to the community in Pawtucket where she was raised”; and 15 
WHEREAS, Ms. Dawson is an outstanding student-athlete who is motivated to keep up 16 
her grades in the hope that she can attend and play basketball at an Ivy-League School. She has a 17 
stellar 4.12 grade-point-average, is a Vice-President of the National Honor Society, and is a 18 
member of the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Committee (DEI); now, therefore be it 19

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby thanks Veronica 1 
Dawson for dedicating so much of her free time to host a clinic for youngsters at the Winters 2 
Elementary School in Pawtucket. We furthermore wish her continued success in all her future 3 
endeavors; and be it further 4 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 5 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Veronica Dawson.  6
