DiPalma Date Introduced: March 28, 2023 Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration WHEREAS, In Rhode Island, approximately 4,000 individuals have developmental 1 disabilities; and 2 WHEREAS, There are 37 community agencies licensed by the Rhode Island Department 3 of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH), and/or certified 4 by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), that provide a range of services and 5 support systems for those with developmental disabilities in the State of Rhode Island; and 6 WHEREAS, For more than thirty years, Rhode Island has been a leader in providing and 7 advancing services for the developmentally disabled community; and 8 WHEREAS, Individuals with developmental disabilities strive to be contributing 9 members of their community, including attaining employment; and 10 WHEREAS, The establishment of March 29th, as Developmental Disabilities Awareness 11 Day has promoted the ongoing endeavor to educate the citizens of this State about the myriad 12 contributions made by those with developmental disabilities; now, therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby proclaims March 29, 14 2023, as "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day" in our State.
