Pearson Date Introduced: March 30, 2023 Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration WHEREAS, Tyler Kolek, star basketball player at Marquette University, is the son of 1 Cumberland Police Officer Kevin Kolek and Lynn Kolek of Cumberland. He was a standout 2 High School Basketball player at the St. George’s School; and 3 WHEREAS, In 2022-2023, Tyler Kolek compiled one of the greatest seasons in the 4 illustrious history of Marquette basketball. He was a unanimous All-Big East Conference First 5 Team selection and was named both the Big East Conference Player of the Year and the Dave 6 Gavitt Big East Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Tyler was also named a 7 Sporting News Second Team All-American, was a Naismith Trophy semi-finalist and Bob Cousy 8 Award finalist; and 9 WHEREAS, Thanks in large part to Tyler Kolek’s outstanding play and leadership, the 10 Marquette Golden Eagles reached a high of 6th in the National Poll Rankings and earned a 11 second seed in the NCAA Tournament. Marquette won both the Big East Regular Season 12 Championship, with a conference record of 17-3, and the Big East Conference Tournament 13 Championship. In the Big East Conference Tournament, Tyler Kolek came up big, scoring 17 14 points in a two-point semi-final victory over a hot and talented Connecticut squad, and led all 15 scorers with 20 points, and grabbed 8 rebounds, as Marquette easily dispatched Xavier in the 16 Championship game; now, therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby congratulates 18 LC002768 - Page 2 of 2 Cumberland native Tyler Kolek for his outstanding season as a Guard on the Marquette Golden 1 Eagles Basketball Team.
