RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- SIZE, WEIGHT AND LOAD LIMITS --
WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS ON ROUTE 114 A EAST PROVIDENCE

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 31-25 of the General Laws entitled "Size, Weight, and Load Limits" 1
is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
31-25-27.13. Weight restriction on Route 114A - East Providence. 3
(a) The operation of through commercial vehicles on Route 114 A between Pawtucket 4
Avenue, East Providence to the Massachusetts state line is prohibited. 5
(b) For purposes of this section, a commercial vehicle is defined as a motor vehicle or 6
combination of vehicles used to transport passengers or property if the motor vehicle: 7
(1) Has a gross combination weight rating of thirty-five thousand one pounds (35,001 lbs.) 8
or more, or a towed unit with a gross vehicle rating of more than ten thousand pounds (10,000 lbs.) 9
or more, or has a gross vehicle weight rating of twenty-six thousand one pounds (26,001 lbs.) or 10
more; or 11
(2) Is designed to transport sixteen (16) or more passengers including the driver; or 12
(3) Is transporting hazardous materials and is required to be placarded in accordance with 13
49 C.F.R. Part 172, Subpart F, as it may be revised from time to time. 14
(c) Nothing contained in this section shall affect the use of such street or roadway by: 15
(1) Any fire truck, town public works department truck, state department of transportation 16
truck, police vehicle, ambulance, school bus, bus serving the area, or other motor truck using such 17
streets or highways in any emergency or engaged in delivering goods, wares, merchandising or 18

materials to or from any residence, building or lot within the towns bordering on such streets or 1
highways; or 2
(2) Any farm vehicle as defined in § 31-1-8, which is registered with farm plates pursuant 3
to § 31-3-31. 4
(d) Any driver who operates a commercial vehicle in contravention of this section shall be 5
subject to a fine of fifty-five dollars ($55.00) for a first violation and one hundred ten dollars ($110) 6
for each subsequent violation. 7
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect thirty (30) days after passage. 8

This act would prohibit commercial motor trucks, with a gross weight rating of twenty-six 1
thousand one pounds (26,001 lbs.) or more, from traveling on Route 114 A, East Providence 2
between Pawtucket Avenue and the Massachusetts state line. 3
This act would take effect thirty (30) days after passage. 4
