AMENDING THE RULES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE YEARS
2023 AND 2024

RESOLVED, that the rules of the House of Representatives adopted by the House of 1
Representatives at its January session, A.D., 2023, entitled “House Resolution Adopting Rules of 2
the House of Representatives for the years 2023 and 2024,” be and the same is hereby amended 3
by adding the following new rule thereto: 4
(49) Recognizing the Importance of Leading by Example. 5
(a) The following items shall not be permitted on the floor of the House or in any spaces 6
utilized for House proceedings except when required for safety, health, or emergency situations: 7
(1) Plastic plates; 8
(2) Plastic cutlery; 9
(3) Plastic straws; 10
(4) Plastic beverage containers; 11
(5) Single-use plastic drinkware; and 12
(6) Food or beverage containers composed in whole or in part of polystyrene foam. 13

This resolution would provide certain plastic and single-use plastic cutlery and beverage 1
containers would not be permitted on the House floor or any spaces utilized for House 2
proceedings, except for safety, health, or emergency situations. 3
