EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF HILDING T. MUNSON

WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Hilding 1 
T. Munson, the beloved husband of Judith A. Munson for 48 years. He was the son of the late 2 
Hilding K. and Alice R. Munson; and 3 
WHEREAS, Hilding Munson was a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, and the 4 
University of Rhode Island. Mr. Munson was a hard-working youngster who delivered the 5 
Providence Journal and worked summers in construction. Mr. Munson also served our nation 6 
with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army and served in Korea during the 7 
Vietnam War era; and 8 
WHEREAS, Mr. Munson worked hard his entire life and strove daily to provide for his 9 
family and loved ones. He was a life-long paper carrier, delivered flowers for Scott the Florist, 10 
served as a Rhode Island State Correctional Officer, and for thirty-five years he served our State 11 
with distinction as a Rhode Island State Sheriff, retiring with the rank of Sergeant; and 12 
WHEREAS, Mr. Munson’s proudest accomplishment as a professional was his 63-year 13 
tenure of devoted service with the Snug Harbor Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Captain for 14 
twenty years and was currently serving as the President of the Snug Harbor Fire Department. He 15 
was also known locally as the South Kingstown Police Department Traffic Constable and 16 
thoroughly enjoyed working details; and 17 
WHEREAS, Hilding Munson was passionate about serving his local community. He was 18 
a dedicated and longtime volunteer with the Special Olympics, RI, for whom he worked every 19 
summer for over fifty years. Mr. Munson was a proud member of the VFW 916 and took great 20

pride in decorating veterans’ graves on Memorial Day. He was also a man of faith and was an 1 
active member of Christ the King Church in Kingston; and 2 
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Judith, Mr. Munson leaves behind his children 3 
Kristin M. Munson and her husband, Brandon Morgan, and Hilding T. Munson, II and his wife, 4 
Alba Davenport. Mr. Munson also leaves behind his sisters, Lynn Mary Munson and Teresa C. 5 
Giviens, and a nephew Ryan D. Giviens. He was predeceased by his sister, Patrice A. Munson; 6 
now, therefore be it 7 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 8 
expresses its deepest condolences to the Munson Family on the passing of Hilding T. Munson; 9 
and be it further 10 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 11 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Judith A. Munson and Family. 12
