CONGRATULATING PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP AND VICE PRESIDENT JAMES
DAVID VANCE ON THEIR ELECTION, AND RECOGNIZING THE 2024 ELECTION AS
AN HISTORIC ELECTION

WHEREAS, On January 20, 2025, Donald J. Trump, an entrepreneur and successful 1
businessman was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States of America, he and Vice 2
President James David Vance bring great hope to our nation. After enduring a global pandemic 3
and four of the most difficult years in modern American history, the American people look 4
forward to a renewal of the American spirit and prosperity; and 5
WHEREAS, Donald J. Trump was born June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, 6
attended the New York Military Academy, Fordham University and Wharton School of the 7
University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a degree in Economics in 1968. He joined 8
his family’s real estate company and grew it into a global enterprise, demonstrating his business 9
acumen and drive. Trump expanded his enterprises into various sectors over his lifetime and 10
amassed a multitude of civilian recognitions including the Tree of Life Award (1983) from the 11
Jewish National Fund for his support of Jewish and Israeli causes, the Ellis Island Medal of 12
Honor (1986) for contributions to the immigrant community and promoting cultural diversity, a 13
Presidential Appointment to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition (1989) by 14
President George H.W. Bush to promote physical fitness, the Muhammad Ali Entrepreneur 15
Award (2007) for entrepreneurial spirit and success in business, and many more; and 16
WHEREAS, President Trump will lead our nation with Vice President James David, 17
“JD” Vance. Vice President Vance was born August 2, 1984 in Middletown Ohio and grew up in 18
a working-class family struggling with instability, poverty, and family issues including his 19

mother’s long battle with addiction. Raised primarily by his grandmother, he enlisted in the 1
United States Marine Corp upon graduating from high school and served in Iraq. After his 2
honorable service to our nation, he graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in 3
political science and philosophy. He later earned his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School 4
in 2013. After a successful career in venture capital in both California and Ohio, Vance ran for 5
US Senate and was elected to the US Senate in 2022; and 6
WHEREAS, On November 5, 2024, when Donald J. Trump was elected President of the 7
United States, he became the first President since Grover Cleveland to serve non-consecutive 8
terms, having previously served as the 45th President from 2017 to 2021. He also became the 9
oldest American to be elected president in our nation’s history; and 10
WHEREAS, President Trump’s election reflects a transformation among the American 11
electorate, uniting a uniquely diverse voter base and reshaping traditional political alignments by 12
focusing on the issues most important to the majority of the American electorate; now, therefore 13
be it 14
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 15
congratulates President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance on their election, and 16
recognizes the 2024 election as an historic election. This House furthermore wishes the President 17
and Vice President the best as they work to reverse the current economic and social uncertainties 18
facing our nation; and be it further 19
RESOLVED, That this resolution serves to congratulate and acknowledge the unique and 20
unprecedented achievements of President Trump and JD Vance's election, marking a new chapter 21
in the history of the United States; and be it further 22
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 23
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of 24
the United States, and the Honorable JD Vance, Vice President of the United States. 25
