PROCLAIMING "CARRIGA N NELSON DAY" ON FEBRUARY 8, 2025, IN THE STATE OF
RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, February 8, 2025, marks the 24th birthday of Carrigan Nelson, a kind and 1
courageous young woman who has inspired "Cancer Warriors" with spirit and hope, through the 2
strength and resolve she has demonstrated amidst her courageous battle with osteosarcoma, a rare 3
pediatric bone cancer; and 4
WHEREAS, Since her diagnosis in 2019, Carrigan’s remarkable resolve and compassion 5
has instilled the community and others, also battling terrible cancers, with sanguinity and bravery; 6
and 7
WHEREAS, Over these past six years, Carrigan has faced myriad challenges with 8
determination instead of hopelessness, and with a joy that fills the hearts of all around her; and 9
WHEREAS, Throughout five battles with cancer and multiple surgeries, Carrigan has 10
used her voice to raise awareness, has lobbied Congress twice for pediatric cancer funding, and is 11
a member of several pediatric cancer nonprofit boards; and 12
WHEREAS, "Carrigan Nelson Day" is a time to remind all people, young and old, to 13
never stop fighting, to never give up, and live each day with hope, love, and purpose; now, 14
therefore be it 15
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 16
proclaims February 8, 2025, as "Carrigan Nelson Day" to honor and support her and all "Cancer 17
Warriors" in their journey through the challenges they so bravely face each and every day; and be 18
it further and 19

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 1
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Carrigan Nelson. 2
