H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N 
EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF GLORIA MESSERLIAN

WHEREAS, This House was saddened to hear of the passing of Gloria Messerlian, the 1 
beloved wife of the late Robert Baxter Messerlian for sixty-two years, and the cherished mother 2 
of Lisa Abbott and her husband, Stephen Abbott, and Paul Messerlian and his wife, Dr. Geralyn 3 
Messerlian.  She had also been blessed with four grandchildren, Ariana and David Abbott, and 4 
Janina and Nicole Messerlian; and     5 
WHEREAS, Born in the City of Pawtucket, Mrs. Messerlian was the daughter of the late 6 
Souren and Theresa Roupenian, and had made her home in the City of Cranston; and  7 
WHEREAS, Devoted to her faith, Mrs. Messerlian was a member of the Armenian 8 
Evangelical Church of Cranston, the Bible study at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 9 
and was a founding member of Hope Church, which was formerly known as the Cranston 10 
Christian Fellowship; and   11 
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Messerlian had founded Baxter’s Jewelry in 1960.  She had 12 
many close friends within the Armenian community and the jewelry industry, and had enjoyed 13 
dining and seeing friends at Twin Oaks and Panera; and  14 
WHEREAS, Gloria Messerlian was a kind and warm woman, and a devoted mother, 15 
wife, and loyal friend, whose faith in God and Christ guided her life, and she is dearly missed; 16 
now, therefore be it 17 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 18 
extends deepest condolences on the passing of Gloria Messerlian; and be it further  19 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 20
