24 | 24 | | SECTION 1. Section 42-12-25 of the General Laws in Chapter 42-12 entitled "Department 1 |

25 | 25 | | of Human Services" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 |

26 | 26 | | 42-12-25. Child care training, accreditation, technical assistance, and monitoring. 3 |

27 | 27 | | (a) The general assembly shall annually appropriate to the department of human services 4 |

28 | 28 | | such funds as it deems necessary to enable the department to assist providers in obtaining national 5 |
---|
29 | 29 | | accreditation, to expand child care staff development and training, and for technical assistance and 6 |
---|
30 | 30 | | monitoring, including but not limited to, activities which provide: 7 |
---|
31 | 31 | | (i) Training opportunities for child care providers which foster a coordinated link between 8 |
---|
32 | 32 | | the providers and the schools; 9 |
---|
33 | 33 | | (ii) Specialized training for providers of infant/toddler and/or pre-adolescent care; 10 |
---|
34 | 34 | | (iii) Evaluation of child care providers and programs through parent surveys and formal 11 |
---|
35 | 35 | | evaluation techniques; 12 |
---|
36 | 36 | | (iv) Technical assistance and training for current and prospective non-English speaking 13 |

38 | 38 | | (b) The general assembly shall annually appropriate to the department of human services 15 |

39 | 39 | | funding for the hiring of additional state child care licensing inspectors in order to meet the National 16 |
---|
40 | 40 | | Association for Regulatory Administration (NARA) recommended average of one inspector for 17 |
---|
41 | 41 | | every fifty (50) to sixty (60) child care providers. 18 |
