2222 WHEREAS, The LGBTQIA+ community is an integral part of Rhode Island’s 1
2323 population; and 2
2424 WHEREAS, The LGBTQIA+ community has fought relentlessly for inclusion and 3
2525 equality, yet LGBTQIA+ people still experience harassment and discrimination based on their 4
2626 sexual orientation and gender identity locally, nationally and internationally; and 5
2727 WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island, which was founded on the principle of individual 6
2828 freedom, celebrates the diversity of its people and their right to live out loud, free of 7
2929 discrimination, fear, and prejudice; and 8
3030 WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island remains committed to protecting the civil rights 9
3131 of the LGBTQIA+ community; and 10
3232 WHEREAS, Transgender and Nonbinary Rhode Islanders are facing threats to their very 11
3333 existence and this Rhode Island State House of Representatives will continue to strengthen its 12
3434 commitment to ensuring dignity and full access to public life; and 13
3535 WHEREAS, LGBTQIA+ people, people of color, and particularly trans women of color, 14
3636 face greater disparities in the areas of health, housing, and criminal justice and are many times 15
3737 more likely to be the victims of fatal violence; and 16
3838 WHEREAS, Every human being has the right to love freely and live their lives openly as 17
3939 who they are; now, therefore be it 18
4040 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 19
4141 proclaims its solidarity with and expresses its support for Rhode Island’s LGBTQIA + 20
