RELATING TO EDUCATION -- CURRICULUM

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 16-22 of the General Laws entitled "Curriculum [See Title 16 1
Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby amended by adding thereto the 2
following section: 3
16-22-34.1. Instruction in sexual education. 4
Any school providing instruction in sexual education to students, prior to providing such 5
instruction to students, shall provide the sexual education curriculum to every parent or legal 6
guardian that has a child in that school, in a form comprehensible to the parent or legal guardian. 7
Every parent or legal guardian shall consent, in writing, to the instruction of such sexual education 8
curriculum provided to that parent or legal guardian for any child in which they are exercising 9
custodial rights. 10
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 11

This act would provide that any school teaching sexual education to students shall provide 1
the sexual education curriculum to every parent or legal guardian with a child in that school, and 2
the parent or legal guardian shall consent, in writing, to the teaching of such sexual education 3
curriculum to their child. 4
This act would take effect upon passage. 5
