MCCAFFREY Introduced By: Senator Dominick J. Ruggerio Date Introduced: March 13, 2025 Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration WHEREAS, This Senate was saddened to hear of the passing of Ann McCaffrey, the 1 beloved wife of the late Eugene McCaffrey, Jr., the former Mayor of Warwick, and the cherished 2 mother of the Honorable Mary McCaffrey, our dear friend and former Senate Majority Leader 3 Michael McCaffrey, Esq. and his wife, Deirdre, John McCaffrey, Esq. and his wife, Margaret, 4 Eugene McCaffrey, III, and William McCaffrey and his wife, Heather; and 5 WHEREAS, Born in the City of Providence, Ann Davis was the eldest daughter of the 6 late F. Sheldon and Gertrude Davis, the sister of Elizabeth Alfonso and the late Gertrude Audet, 7 and the aunt to many nieces and nephews; and 8 WHEREAS, Ann grew up in the Conimicut neighborhood of Warwick. She graduated 9 from Gorton High School, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College, and attained 10 a Master of Arts degree in History from Providence College; and 11 WHEREAS, With a loving and kind personality, Mrs. McCaffrey created and nurtured a 12 marriage that flourished, and a home that was warm and welcoming to her large and boisterous 13 family. She was always encouraging and doted on her family, particularly in her role as “Nannie” 14 to her treasured grandchildren, Michael, Cailin, Brenna, Catherine, Deirdre, Brendan, Matthew, 15 Luke and Elizabeth, who were the light of her life; and 16 WHEREAS, For many years, Mrs. McCaffrey was an elementary and secondary special 17 education teacher in the Warwick Public Schools and was later a member of the RI Retired 18 Teachers' Association; and 19 WHEREAS, Devoted to her faith, Mrs. McCaffrey was a life-long communicant of St. 20 LC001824 - Page 2 of 2 Benedict Church. In addition, she was a member of the National Society Daughters of the 1 American Revolution, General Nathanael Greene-Pettaquamscutt Chapter, The General Society 2 of Mayflower Descendants, and the Squantum Association; and 3 WHEREAS, Ann McCaffrey was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a loyal and 4 lifelong friend to many, and a “ray of sunshine” to her family and all who knew her, and there is 5 no doubt that she left an indelible mark on the lives of those she knew and loved, and she is 6 dearly missed; now, therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby extends deepest 8 sympathy and condolences on the passing of Ann D. McCaffrey; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 10 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Mary E.
