Ujifusa Date Introduced: March 27, 2025 Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Food Policy Council (RIFPC), established in 2011, has 1 been instrumental in promoting resilience, addressing food insecurity, and ensuring sustainable 2 production of and access to nutritious food for all Rhode Islanders; and 3 WHEREAS, The RIFPC has fostered collaboration, education, and innovation among a 4 diverse range of stakeholders, including volunteers, community organizations, government 5 agencies, farmers, food businesses, and social justice advocates; and 6 WHEREAS, The RIFPC has led efforts to analyze existing food systems and supported 7 development of plans, including the Rhode Island Food Strategy, to ensure that future food needs 8 of all Rhode Islanders can be met; and 9 WHEREAS, The RIFPC has been a key advocate for policies that address food insecurity 10 and hunger, ensuring equitable access to healthy, nutritious food for Rhode Islanders of all ages, 11 incomes, and backgrounds; and 12 WHEREAS, The RIFPC’s support for local agriculture and sustainability initiatives has 13 strengthened Rhode Island’s economy while safeguarding both the environment and food security 14 for future generations; and 15 WHEREAS, Given the uncertainty of continued national and international support for 16 important food policy work, it is crucial that Rhode Island recognize and support RIFPC; and 17 WHEREAS, The immediate and existential threat of climate change to our food systems, 18 health, and safety, make it even more urgent to recognize and support RIFPC; now, therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby honors the Rhode 20 LC001893 - Page 2 of 2 Island Food Policy Council for its outstanding work promoting resilience, addressing food 1 insecurity, and ensuring sustainable production of and access to nutritious food for all Rhode 2 Islanders; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby commends the Rhode Island Food Policy Council’s 4 staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedication, and expresses its gratitude for their 5 continued leadership and service to the people of Rhode Island; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 7 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Governor of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island 8 Speaker of the House and President of the Senate, Rhode Island’s Congressional Delegation, and 9 other relevant state and federal leaders, to acknowledge and honor the extraordinary contributions 10 of the Rhode Island Food Policy Council. 11 ======== LC001893 ========
