9	9	A concurrent RESOLUTION To recognize Travis E. Overton for his seventeen years of service to the State of south carolina as a member of the Coastal carolina university family in support of its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, and to express profound sorrow upon his sudden passing. Whereas, Travis E. Overton served Coastal Carolina University in a variety of capacities from 2007 until 2024, including five years as Dean of Students and the last seven years as Vice President for Executive Initiatives and Chief of Staff; and Whereas, Travis dedicated nearly his entire professional career to the university, demonstrating a commitment to the campus community while also promoting greater access to higher education for the residents of South Carolina; and Whereas, Travis invested in the local community by joining various boards and organizations in Conway and Myrtle Beach, and served as president of the Mu Epsilon Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and Whereas, Travis proudly advised and mentored young men on campus by establishing the African American Initiative for Men and served as campus advisor for CCU's Nu Phi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and Whereas, Travis spearheaded Teal & Tech, a partnership between CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College that introduces Horry County middle school students to the educational opportunities that are available at both institutions; and Whereas, Travis championed the adoption of Teal Tuesday, the university's weekly initiative that encourages Chanticleers around the world to wear teal to show school pride; and Whereas, Travis led a campuswide effort to develop and operationalize CCU Reach, the university's strategic plan and "tealprint for the future"; and Whereas, Travis supported CCU's Relay for Life initiatives and established the Angela D. Murray Pound Cake Award in loving support and memory of his mother; and Whereas, Travis developed the Presidential Ambassadors program, which allows students to serve as hosts at presidential events and other university functions; and Whereas, Coastal Carolina University has benefited tremendously from his dedication, work ethic, and vision for the betterment of this institution and the citizens of the Palmetto State. Travis E. Overton will be missed by all. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring: That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize Travis E. Overton for his seventeen years of service to the State of South Carolina as a member of the Costal Carolina University in support of its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, and to express profound sorrow upon his sudden passing. ----XX---
