99 A house RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE RUSSELL GLOVER FOR HIS INDUCTION INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA GOLF HALL OF FAME. Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Russell Glover was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame on January 11, 2025, at the South Carolina Golf Association's 21st Annual Golf Day; and Whereas, Mr. Glover became the seventy-ninth member of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame. His induction honored his achievements in junior, amateur, and professional golf, as well as his contributions to the sport as a dedicated professional and mentor; and Whereas, a veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Glover served in Germany from 1967 to 1969; and Whereas, Mr. Glover began his impressive golf career at an early age. While in junior high, he won the 1959 and 1960 South Carolina Junior High School Championship and the 1960 and 1961 Charleston News & Courier Championship. In 1961 and 1962, he won the Southern Interscholastic Championship and, in 1963, the prestigious Donald Ross Junior Championship; and Whereas, Mr. Glover's successes continued with his second-place finish in the 1962 South Carolina Amateur Championship and his winning of the 1966 University of Alabama Invitational. On the national scale, he also participated in the USGA Amateur Championship in 1962 and in the NCAA Championships in 1966 and 1967; and Whereas, Mr. Glover's professional golf achievements include winning the 1974 South Carolina Open Championship, the 1976 Carolinas Open Championship, the 1979 and 1981 Carolinas Pro-Pro Championships, the 1985 and 1993 CGA Pro Amateur Championship, and the 1996 Carolinas PGA Senior Section Championship. He was also named the 1996 Carolinas PGA Senior Player of the Year. Mr. Glover also played in numerous prestigious PGA tournaments, including the Heritage Classic, Greater Greensboro Open, and World Open; and Whereas, in addition to his achievements as a player, Mr. Glover has made significant contributions to his sport as a professional. His career began as a pro shop assistant at Whispering Pines. After his service in the Army, he then held positions as head professional at Cheraw Country Club, assistant pro at Kings Grant Country Club, and head professional at Lake City Country Club and Crickentree Golf Club (1995-1997). He concluded his career at the Country Club of South Carolina; and Whereas, an active member of his community, Mr. Glover also taught golf lessons for free for forty-four years. He facilitated a love of golf in many junior golfers who went on to have their own distinguished golf careers; and Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for Mr. Glover's dedicated service to the people and the State of South Carolina and his enduring contributions to golf and takes great pleasure in saluting him for his well-deserved recognition. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Russell Glover for his induction into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Russell Glover. ----XX----
