9	9	A house RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF BLACKVILLE NATIVE HELEN PEEPLES SINGLETARY, TO CELEBRATE HER LIFE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS. Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the passing of Blackville native Helen Peeples Singletary on February 21, 2025, at the venerable age of 90; and Whereas, born in the town of Blackville on June 25, 1934, Helen Peeples came into this world the daughter of Morris Peeples Sr. and Annie Mae Thomas Peeples. Following the death of her mother when Helen was only eight, the young Helen was relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where she was educated and raised by her beloved paternal grandmother, Jennie Lou Peeples Mason, and paternal aunts, Lugenia Peeples and Edna Odom; and Whereas, after graduating from high school, she returned to South Carolina to attend Voorhees College at the behest of her loving stepmother, Lucille Smalls Peeples. In God's good time, Helen became the devoted wife of John G. Singletary Sr., whom she wed in July 1957, the Lord blessing the couple with five delightful children; and Whereas, Helen graduated with business degrees from Voorhees College and South Carolina State College and received her master's degree in business from Winthrop College. After completing thirty years of teaching, Helen retired from Charleston County School District (CCSD), having taught at her first love, Baptist Hill High School, where her "Bobcat" students always have been the joy of her life and where she was affectionately known as "H.P. Singletary" by her students, co-workers, and friends. After retiring from CCSD, Helen continued to teach, model, and support business education and service through her entrepreneurial spirit. She was the founder and owner of the Computer Training Clinic, Dupont Insurance Agency, Family Assistance Management Services, Multi Force Personnel, and many other businesses within the Progressive Business Center, established by Helen and her husband; and Whereas, a long-serving member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and longtime resident of the Evanston Estates community in North Charleston, she was a faithful servant in both venues. Further, Helen was a lifetime member of the National Council of Negro Women. She gave her all to worthy causes and, as a result, the seeds of her labor are bearing fruit in her children and in their leadership, as well. She was the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman; and Whereas, as an extension of her business prowess, Helen was able to live out her Christian faith and her love for people by continuously working to improve the lives of those within her community. Helen lived her life as a testament of the famous words "Be the change you wish to see in the world"; and Whereas, preceded in death by her dear husband, John Singletary Sr., as well as by her son, Sheldon, Helen leaves to cherish her memory her remaining children and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Blackville native Helen Peeples Singletary, celebrate her life, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family. ----XX----
