A house RESOLUTION TO DECLARE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9, 2025, AS "STO PROGRAMS DAY" IN South Carolina AND TO ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND BUSINESSES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CONSUMER-FACING PROGRAMS OFFERED AT THE STATE TREASURER'S OFFICE. Whereas, the State Treasurer's Office administers multiple programs to benefit the citizens of the Palmetto State; and Whereas, saving for a college education is an important investment in a child's future, as student loan debt continues to increase. South Carolina's Future Scholar 529 College Savings Plan currently serves more than 232,000 families with more than 6.6 billion dollars in assets under management; and Whereas, individuals with disabilities and their families who care for them should have access to the same kinds of savings tools that are available to the broader population. The Palmetto ABLE Savings Program provides over three thousand three hundred individuals with disabilities in all forty-six counties the opportunity to save for their future without losing government benefits; and Whereas, rightful owners of unclaimed property or their heirs always have a right to claim property held in custody by the State Treasurer's Office. The South Carolina Unclaimed Property Program returned thirty-eight million dollars last fiscal year and currently has more than nine hundred fifty million dollars in unclaimed funds available for claim. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, declare Wednesday, April 9, 2025, as "STO Programs Day" in South Carolina and encourage individuals, families, and businesses to learn more about the consumer-facing programs offered at the State Treasurer's Office. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Curtis M. Loftis Jr., Treasurer of the State of South Carolina. ----XX----
