9	9	A house RESOLUTION TO CELEBRATE THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF THE ONE HUNDRED twenty-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF Bellview Baptist CHURCH AND TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR Pastor Darren rood AND THE CONGREGATION FOR THEIR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE Laurens COMMUNITY. Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Bellview Baptist Church in Laurens will celebrate its one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary in October 2025; and Whereas, shortly before the end of the nineteenth century, two men were hunting together in the Laurens community and began to discuss the need for a Baptist church in their community; and Whereas, on April 26,1900, a group met in Laurens to organize the church, and land was donated by Lafayette Ramage under the provision that the church be built in view of "his aunt Sallie Bell," thus rendering the name for the church, Bellview; and Whereas, on October 13, 1900, the first service was held in a white wooden building with M.C. Compton serving as the church's first-called pastor; and Whereas, midcentury, the church began to make improvements, with the construction of a new sanctuary that was first used on April 11,1954, followed by the addition of a new education building in 1968; and Whereas, the end of the twentieth century saw the completion of the Family Life Center in 1981, followed by renovations to the sanctuary in 1982, and to the education building in 1998. A children's building was added to the church campus in 2009 as Bellview ushered in the modern era; and Whereas, with their eyes fixed on Jesus, the members of Bellview Baptist Church are thankful for the many ministries of the church and for those who have offered their spiritual energy and encouragement to fulfill the church's mission in the community; and Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives commends the current Senior Pastor of Bellview Church, Darren Rood, as the church celebrates a century and a quarter of ministry in and service to the Laurens community and extends warmest congratulations on the occasion of the church's historic anniversary in October 2025. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the joyous occasion of the one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary of Bellview Baptist Church and congratulate and honor Pastor Darren Rood and the congregation for their years of dedicated service to the Laurens community. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Darren Rood. ----XX----
