99 A house RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2025 CLASS AAAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO COMMEND THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON. Whereas, on a mission to claim the gold, the Berkeley High School girls basketball team concluded their remarkable season with a 24-4 record, securing the 2025 Class AAAAA State Championship title by defeating Greenwood 60-54 on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Florence Civic Center; and Whereas, the championship game was a thrilling battle of wills, with both teams competing fiercely for control. Greenwood held the lead through the first three quarters. However, as the game progressed, Berkeley found their rhythm and began to close the gap. With just 4:41 remaining in the fourth quarter, Berkeley outscored the Eagles 10-2. A clutch free throw by Aiyanna Moses with just four seconds remaining sealed the victory and capped off Berkeley's unforgettable season; and Whereas, with the state championship on the line, the Lady Stags displayed extraordinary skill, determination, and teamwork. Guided by the words and guidance of their coaches, they persevered and made history by capturing Berkeley's first-ever state championship in girls basketball. This landmark victory not only marks a milestone for the team, but also for the school, as it is the first girls' team in the school's history to achieve such an honor. Key players in the win included Madison Thomas, Amani McCray, and Alaina Carter, whose contributions were pivotal to the team's success; and Whereas, success at this level is the result of years of hard work and dedication. Under the leadership of Head Coach Crystal Peace, who has been at the helm since the 2010-2011 season, the Lady Stags have developed into a championship-caliber program. Coach Peace, a former Berkeley High School player, has dedicated years to building the team into a force to be reckoned with, and the culmination of her efforts came with this hard-earned state championship; and Whereas, the Lady Stags have brought immense pride and recognition to their school and community, and the House is honored to recognize these outstanding student athletes for their achievements both on the court and in the classroom. Their commitment to excellence promises even greater successes in the years ahead. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Berkeley High School girls basketball team on winning the 2025 Class AAAAA Division II State Championship title and commend the team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff for a remarkable season. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Heather Ducker and Head Coach Crystal Peace of Berkeley High School. ----XX----
