South Carolina General Assembly126th Session, 2025-2026 Bill 4318 Indicates Matter StrickenIndicates New Matter (Text matches printed bills. Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.) A house RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE GREENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Greenville High boys basketball team captured the state title at the state championship game held at the Florence Center on Saturday, March 8, 2025; and Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Greenville Red Raiders defeated a highly competitive Gator team from Goose Creek High School in a nail-biting double overtime game, 81-71, ending the season with a 28-2 record; and Whereas, the state championship was a rematch for Greenville of a December 28 game that Greenville dropped to Goose Creek 54-45 during a post-Christmas tournament at Slick Moore Gymnasium. After that loss, the team had a scrimmage with a bunch of Red Raider alumni, and the coach challenged the alumni to rough the team up. It worked. The Red Raiders never gave up another game in the season; and Whereas, after losing the school's athletic director, Steve Scolamiero, in February to cancer, the team wanted to "win one for the Gipper." The Red Raiders seemed to get tougher every game for the last two months of the 2024-2025 season, but they had not won a state title for nineteen years since their championship win in 2006; and Whereas, Goose Creek forced the first overtime by making a buzzer-beating 3-pointer after Greenville had led by as many as five points in the final minute. The Red Raiders pulled away again in the second overtime, and this time never let the Gators get anywhere close. Franklin Whitley had 25 points and 14 rebounds for Greenville, while teammates Caden Coleman and Roman Cooley scored 21 points and 13 points, respectively; and Whereas, in a sport that exacts strength and speed, agility, and accuracy, Head Coach Mike Anderson and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the courts; and Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the Greenville basketball players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Greenville High School boys basketball team, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Class AAAAA Division II State Championship title. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Dylan Hudson and Coach Mike Anderson. ----XX---- A house RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE GREENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
