99 A house RESOLUTION TO DECLARE MONDAY, APRIL 28, 2025, AS "WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO REMEMBER THE AMERICAN WORKERS WHO HAVE DIED, SUFFERED INJURY, OR SUFFERED ILLNESS AS A RESULT OF WORKPLACE CONDITIONS. Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is always saddened to learn of workers in the Palmetto State who die, are injured, or become ill due to workplace conditions; and Whereas, concerned citizens are seeking to raise public awareness about these avoidable tragedies by observing Workers Memorial Day as a time to remember victims of workplace deaths, injuries, and illnesses; and Whereas, every year, tens of thousands of American workers die from workplace injuries and from occupational diseases. Many more are injured or made ill; and Whereas, more than five decades ago on Workers Memorial Day, the Occupational Safety and Health Act went into effect to protect the safety of American workers on the job; and Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives encourages all South Carolinians to become aware of the continued need for safety and health protections in the American workplace, for standards and enforcement, and for fair and just compensation. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, declare Monday, April 28, 2025, as "Workers Memorial Day" in South Carolina and remember the American workers who have died, suffered injury, or suffered illness as a result of workplace conditions. ----XX----
