| 9 | 9 | | A house RESOLUTION TO COMMEND COREY BEDENBAUGH, SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER AT BATESBURG-LEESVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL, FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON BEING NAMED 2026 SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR. Whereas, it is with distinct pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives recognizes educators who approach teaching with passion, creativity, and infectious enthusiasm, along with appropriate academic preparation for their fields; and Whereas, in the roll call of such South Carolina educators, Corey Bedenbaugh, social studies teacher at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School, stands chief among their numbers and richly deserves the honor of being named 2026 South Carolina Teacher of the Year; and Whereas, Corey Bedenbaugh received this prestigious honor on April 24, 2025, at the South Carolina Department of Education's annual Gala in the Garden, held at the Governor's Mansion in Columbia; and Whereas, South Carolina State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver honored the new state Teacher of the Year with this praise: "Corey is an educator whose quiet impact goes far beyond the classroom walls. His passion, leadership, and heart for building up his students embody the very best of the teaching profession. I can't wait to see the positive catalyst Corey will be to elevate and celebrate the art of teaching at this exciting time of opportunity in South Carolina education"; and Whereas, as part of his award, this Lexington County School District Three teacher received twenty-five thousand dollars and was given a BMW for one year for his service as a roving ambassador. In this capacity, he will attend events, provide mentoring, work with teacher cadets and fellows, and become the state spokesperson for more than sixty-four thousand educators as he leads the state teacher forum; and Whereas, the South Carolina House is pleased to salute Corey Bedenbaugh for achieving the high honor of being selected as 2026 South Carolina Teacher of the Year, and the members extend best wishes for the year ahead as he serves as a statewide ambassador for the teaching profession. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Corey Bedenbaugh, social studies teacher at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School, for his commitment to providing quality education for the children of South Carolina and congratulate him upon being named 2026 South Carolina Teacher of the Year. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Corey Bedenbaugh. ----XX---- |
