MATTHEWS, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF GOSPEL MINISTRY, TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM THE LORD'S RICHEST BLESSINGS IN THE DAYS AHEAD. Whereas, it is entirely appropriate to honor those individuals who give selflessly of themselves to nurture the souls of men. The Reverend Dr. Louis C. Williams Sr., pastor of St. Matthews' Antioch Baptist Church, stands high as an outstanding minister of the gospel, one greatly respected by his colleagues, congregation, and community; and Whereas, this native of Fort Motte was born on October 9, 1947, to the Reverend Pete Williams and Louise Williams. He graduated from John Ford High School in 1966 and then continued his education at Manhattan Bible Institute of New York City, from which he received certificates in general Bible and evangelism; and Whereas, in addition, while studying at several other schools in New York, Dr. Williams earned a bachelor's degree in religious studies and philosophy from the College of New Rochelle. He was further awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Virginia University of Lynchburg, Virginia; and Whereas, under Dr. Williams' leadership as pastor of Antioch Baptist, the church has grown spiritually and numerically through baptism, Christian experience, and letters of recommendation. The church also has gained eight ministers, created a Wednesday night Bible study, added a new members' orientation class, constructed a new fellowship hall, built a steeple on the roof, and remodeled the front of the church; and Whereas, as a part of his call to ministry, Dr. Williams has preached and traveled extensively across the United States and throughout the world, including visits to Israel, Judea, and the Caribbean; and Whereas, his service to the community has reached beyond church doors. Dr. Williams, after thirty-five years of committed service, retired from the United States Postal Inspection Service as a postal police supervisor with the rank of sergeant; and Whereas, Dr. Williams considers it one of the greatest triumphs of his life that he was able to persuade the lovely Dorothy Williams to become his wife. They are the proud parents of Louis Jr. and Keturah, who have given the senior Williamses the joy of two delightful granddaughters and one charming grandson, as well as one precious great-granddaughter; and Whereas, cognizant of his many years of spiritual shepherding of the people of this great State, the House takes great pleasure in expressing grateful thanks to Dr. Williams and in wishing him God's best as he continues to run the race the Lord has set before him. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor the Reverend Dr. Louis C. Williams Sr., pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in St. Matthews, for his many years of gospel ministry, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him the Lord's richest blessings in the days ahead.
