A house RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY 1981 NFL DRAFT CLASS FOR THEIR SUCCESSFUL CAREERS AT SOUTH CAROLINA STATE AND WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE PROFESSIONAL NFL TEAMS. Whereas, with great pride, the South Carolina House of Representatives salutes the members of the South Carolina State University (SCSU) 1981 NFL draft class for their many achievements in both college and professional football; and Whereas, in 1981, South Carolina State University boasted eight student athletes in the 1981 NFL draft, consisting of five draft picks and three free agents, which was the best ever in the rich history of SCSU football; and Whereas, these outstanding Bulldogs played in an impressive four Super Bowls, three NFC Championships, three AFC Championships, and two Pro Bowls, and their record was the best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), as well as for all historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU). Further, the SCSU 1981 NFL draft class remains, to this day, number one, rising above all other MEAC colleges or universities, according to the numbers, participation, and accomplishments in this draft class, since the MEAC Conference was formed to play, and compete in, football in 1970; and Whereas, players from the South Carolina State University 1981 NFL draft class include the following: Robert Geathers Sr. (drafted 3rd round, Buffalo Bills), Edwin Bailey (drafted 5th round, Seattle Seahawks), Charlie Brown (drafted 8th round, Washington Redskins), William Judson (drafted 8th round, Miami Dolphins), John Alford (drafted 12th round, Miami Dolphins), Angelo King (free agent, Dallas Cowboys), Leroy Robinson (free agent, Philadelphia Eagles), and Chris Ragland (free agent, Washington Redskins); and Whereas, taking much pleasure in celebrating the SCSU 1981 NFL draft class, the House extends to each member of the class best wishes for much continued success in the years to come. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the members of the South Carolina State University 1981 NFL draft class for their successful careers at South Carolina State and with their respective professional NFL teams.
