| 9 | 9 | | A house RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE THE Wilson Hall girls track TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2025 SOUTH CAROLINA Independent School Association (SCISA) Division I STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE. Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Wilson Hall girls track team of Sumter County captured the SCISA Division I State Championship title at the state meet held at Ben Lippen School in Columbia on Monday, May 5, 2025; and Whereas, to the delight of their exuberant fans, the Wilson Hall Lady Barons defeated a fine, competitive field of opponents, besting their nearest competitor, Porter-Gaud School, by 19 points; and Whereas, the state meet, which began on Saturday, was interrupted due to a weather delay with Wilson Hall in the lead, and was completed on Monday with the Barons winning the championship and setting eleven school records in the process; and Whereas, key to their success was the team's depth and they benefited from senior leaders' Molly Jones and Abby Bradley, among others. In addition to two first place finishes, with Molly Jones winning the 400m hurdles and the 4x400 relay team setting a school record with a time of 4:04:93, the team earned numerous seconds, thirds, and more to lift the team to first overall; and Whereas, some of the other highlights included Karsen Jones finishing second in the 400m hurdles, Molly Jones also finishing second in the 1,600m run, and Abby Bradley finishing second in the 400m dash followed by Bailey Flemming and Ella Sill in fourth and sixth places respectively. In addition, the 4x100 relay team took fourth place with a time of 50:92, which was another school record, while the 4x800 relay team finished third, McKinley Bath took second in the high jump and was the runner-up in the javelin with a school record toss of 35.5m, Camryn Wilmes finished second in the triple jump, and Christina Osgood finished third in the pole vault; and Whereas, Head Coach Rip Ripley claimed his first state championship ever as a head coach on his fortieth birthday. In a sport that requires strength, speed, stamina, and versatility, he and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic experience and training to build a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the tracks; and Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Wilson Hall track team members have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize the Wilson Hall girls track team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2025 South Carolina Independent School Association Division I State Championship title. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head of School Brent C. Kaneft and Coach Rip Ripley. ----XX---- |
