11-ENTITLED An Act to require that all certified educators take a course in South Dakota
12-Indian Studies.
13-BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
14-Section 1. That § 13-1-48 be AMENDED:
15-13-1-48. All certified educators new to the profession or from out-of-state shall
16-complete a three-credit-hour course in South Dakota Indian studies. The course shall
17-include components specific to:
18-(1) Language and cultural awareness;
19-(2) History;
20-(3) Educational theory and background of the traditional tribal education; and
21-(4) Implementation and strategies of Indian learning styles, curriculum development,
