A JOINT RESOLUTION, Proposing and submitting to the voters at the next general 1 election an amendment to the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, 2 requiring a number of signatures on a petition to initiate a constitutional 3 amendment be obtained from each county. 4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA: 5 Section 1. That at the next general election held in the state, the following amendment to 6 Article XXIII of the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, as set forth in section 2 of this 7 Joint Resolution, which is hereby agreed to, shall be submitted to the electors of the state for 8 approval. 9 Section 2. That Article XXIII, § 1 of the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, 10 be AMENDED: 11 § 1. Amendments An amendment to this Constitution may be proposed by 12 initiative or by a majority an affirmative vote of all members a majority of the members-13 elect of each house of the Legislature. 14 An amendment proposed by initiative shall require may be presented only by a 15 petition signed by qualified voters from each senatorial district, equal in number to at least 16 ten percent of the total votes cast for Governor in the last gubernatorial election.
